1993-2021 Various positions at ExxonMobil Chemical Europe Inc., Machelen (near Brussels), Belgium, including research scientist, lab supervisor, research program lead, advanced characterization team lead and supervisor, senior advisor advanced characterization. Research projects on heterogeneous catalysis, membrane separation, drilling fluids and polymers. Coordinated the design, the implementation and the move of labs, and the selection, acquisition and installation of major analytical equipment (e.g. TEM, SEM, FIB-SEM, AFM, XRD, XRF).

1991-1993 Research scientist at Exxon Chemical Holland BV, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Research on zeolite synthesis and characterization, mostly by TEM, and on zeolite membranes.

1988-1991 Post-doc at Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. Research project on high-resolution transmission electron microscopy on III-V semiconductors for solar cells and optical telecommunication. Participated in the establishment of the Dutch National Center for High-Resolution TEM at TUDelft, including the preparation of labs and selection and installation of microscopes.

1988 PhD in Structural Geology, Utrecht University, the Netherlands. Thesis: Intracrystalline deformation and slaty cleavage development in very low-grade slates from the Central Pyrenees, Geologica Ultraiectina 56, 173 pp.

1984-1988 Research assistant, Department of Geology, University of Utrecht.
